ESL to Host the First CS:GO Major of 2020 in Rio de Janeiro

ESL have announced that they will host the first Counter-Strike: Global Offensive major event of the next year in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. ESL One: Rio 2020 will be the first major event held in South America.

The tournament will be held on May 11th-24th. As an ESL event with a $1,000,000 prize pool, it is also part of ESL Pro Tour and Intel Grand Slam. The final stage of the major will be played at Jeunesse Arena, which can seat up to 15,500 viewers. The major will be preceded by the regional minor events, which will take place on April 28th – May 3rd and determine 10 last participants of the event.

The previous major CS:GO event was held by StarLadder this summer in Berlin. Astralis, AVANGAR, Renegades, NRG Esports, ENCE, Team Vitality, Natus Vincere and Team Liquid secured their Legend statutes, while mousesports, G2 Esports, CR4ZY, MIBR, FaZe Clan and North secured their right to participate in the New Challengers Stage.
