One of the most anticipated MMA fights in history, UFC 249, that was previously scheduled on the 18th of April will not happen due to the statement of Dana White, the president of the UFC.
New York, USA, can't be the venue for this fight due to the coronavirus outbreak. "I got a call from our broadcast partners from Disney and ESPN, really highest level calls. And both of them asked me not to do this event this Sunday," said Dana White.
"While our organization was ready and fully prepared to make UFC 249 come true, ESPN, and few other ours broadcasting partners, including Disney, asked us to postpone this and other combats in light of the coronavirus pandemic," said White in his statement to CNN.
"We are looking forward to showing for fans the schedule of all the full live events as soon as possible," ended the UFC president.
ESPN said in their statement: "We want to see the sports come back even more than anybody else, but we fill that it will be wrong for many different reasons. ESPN expressed its concerns to the UFC, and they understood."
The fight between the current champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson had to become the headline of the evening. This combat was previously scheduled multiple times and canceled due to a various number of reasons. It seems like this time it happens again.
